Quick bounce from hoops practice

The team looks very conditioned (no surprise) and runs drills with no wasted motion. If there's a tie-up or a ball out of bounds, the Gamecocks go right away to the next play. No diagramming another play to run or discussing why the previous one fouled up, just run it again or run something else.
The speed of the scrimmage was impressive; nobody held anything back. There were a few times where the Gamecocks ran past the play and didn't have a lot of great body control on the shot, but that'll improve once they play against somebody other than themselves.
Evka Baniulis has improved his inside game and was hustling around the paint instead of waiting for an open shot on the wing.
Mike Holmes could have a monster year. He's the best low option the Gamecocks have -- although Austin Steed could be a diamond in the rough -- and will get the ball a lot.
There were around 150 students there and athletic director Eric Hyman also attended. Horn took time to instruct the students how to cheer on 3-point and free throw attempts.

There'll be a story tomorrow, but a few quick notes from Darrin Horn's open practice for students at the Strom on Monday ...
